Electrically conductive epoxy resin floor for ESD areas
Comforpox 802 ESD is a seamless, electrically conductive resin floor for spaces where static electricity has to be discharged in a controlled way. Carbon-fibre free, so even in colour, and approximately 2 mm thick.
Where electronic components are made or measured, a discharge of a few volts is enough to cause damage that only shows up in the field months later. Comforpox 802 ESD discharges that charge to earth in a controlled way, via a conductive layer beneath the self-levelling layer connected to copper earthing strips.
The self-levelling layer complies with IEC 61340-4-1, IEC 61340-4-5 and IEC 61340-5-1. Per floor field we install at least two earthing points, with a ring circuit 10 cm from the edge and strips no more than 15 metres apart. Before the self-levelling layer is applied we measure the resistance of the conductive layer, which must be below 200 kiloohm. An expansion joint interrupts a floor field, so each field gets its own ring circuit and earthing points.
Many conductive floors rely on carbon fibres, which remain visible as dark streaks in the surface. This system is carbon-fibre free: the floor stays even in colour and is available in the RAL and NCS colour families, a real difference in a cleanroom or laboratory where visible contamination matters.
The self-levelling layer has a hardness of more than Shore D80, a compressive strength of more than 65 N/mm2 and a flexural strength of more than 35 N/mm2. Adhesion to concrete is greater than 1.5 N/mm2 with concrete failure. All layers are classified SR B1.5 AR1 IR4 according to EN 13813, with fire class Efl.
Maintenance products that leave a film make the floor insulating and cancel its function: use a neutral cleaning agent, never polishes or gloss products. Have the earthing points and cables checked periodically and the resistance measured according to IEC 61340-4-1, so you can demonstrate at an audit that the floor still performs. We repair damage so that conductivity remains continuous.
